Big weekender coming up at The Good Bits this week, two legends and the finest residents in the land present 3 big nights out

Richard Dorfmeister (Friday night) – One half of Kruder and Dorfmeister takes to the cave for an intimate night of low down sounds - Their mixes are usually flavored with sampler-processed vocals, deep bassline dub, trip-hop elements, bossa grooves and smoothly-shaped echoes to achieve a unique sound. Some of their better-known works include "High Noon," "Original Bedroom Rockers," and remixes of Madonna's "Nothing Really Matters," Depeche Mode's "Useless," Count Basic's "Speechless" and Roni Size's "Heroes". Many of their remixes are collected on the double album The K & D Sessionswhich is any any discerning music lovers collection

Last ever punch (Saturday) – After 6 strong months we are quitting our regular Saturday and having a massive party to say goodbye! All the DJs will be still working with us under different nights, we are also bring in some acts we feel will be big this year so stay tuned for more info, forthcoming Boy 8 Bit, Juan Maclean (DFA) and many more

Hot Chip (DJ set on Sunday) – Multi talented musician and DJ Al Doyle from Hot Chip comes to the good bits for a one off event, bank holiday special over two rooms, also featuring Jon Carter, Johnny Moy, Priory DJs, and introducing Motion control .

This week is the very last Punch in The Good Bits, we are all still working together but we want to bring over more acts and more diverse bands and djs

Saturday April 24th sees 2 International guests land at Punch ..

Headlining the main room is one of the DFA originals - Shit Robot cut his teeth as a DJ in NYC through the 90s and early 2000s alongside the likes of James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and Luke Jenner of The Rapture, curating renowned nights like Plant, which was dubbed the 'coolest and loudest bar in New York City' by Face magazine (10/02). It was at Plant Bar that Marcus and DFA’s James Murphy started their now infamous Shit Robot party, named after Murphy’s crap robot drawing.

Shit Robot productions have been featured on mixes from luminaries such as Radio Slave, Shir I Khan and Rub N Tug's Fabric compilation, while his cut "Simple Things (Work It Out)" is an ace offering of new-school disco that featured in many discerning critics' year end best of lists from '09 and was reworked by Todd Terje and Serge Santiago.

And in The Cave .. Riotous Rockers formed after a chance meeting on the dance floor of Fabric Room One in the summer of 2003. Unbeknown to Pete and Boggy they would both meet again in their home town of Nottingham a few months later to discover they shared a mutual love of all things Electro, Pop, Disco, and Rave.

The DJ partnership was truly formed when they were given the chance to play at Nottingham's most hedonistic night, Liars Club. Mixing up as many styles as they could lay their hands on, they complimented promoter Ricky Haleys inspired bookings (which over the years has seen the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Scissors Sisters, Bloc Party and The Klaxons play long before they became household names). Riotous Rockers soon became a regular fixture at the club.

Who were your main inspirations that got you into djing & production?

Boggy: Erol Alkan, Mickey Finn, Andy Weatherall, The Chemical Brothers, Stuart Price, Harvey, Soulwax.
Pete: Going to Clubs like 21st Century Body Rockers, Return to New York and Trash. Seeing Erol, 2many DJs, Mark Moore, Lazarus, etc. playing the most exciting music I’d ever heard.

How many records are in your collection?

Boggy: Around 4000 maybe, happily rapidly declining thanks to Ebay!
Pete: I have no idea, a few thousand I suppose. A lot of them are for sale now though.

LCD Soundsystem competition

UNFORTUNATELY THE GIG HAS BEEN POSTONED DUE TO THE VOLCANO AND ASH, SORRY James Murphy and Pat Mahoney take over The Button Factory for the official LCD soundsystem after party on April 20th with a Special Disco Version set .

And even better is the fact that any money raised will go towards They Are Us project which is put together by Dublin artist Maser and singer Damien Dempsey to raise money for the homeless of Dublin

Doors are at 11pm (expect loads of REAL disco)

Tiga Bugged Out Interview

In preparation of the Planet Turbo Tour, Tiga shared his thoughts on the project ...

Tell us about the Planet Turbo Tour. What can people expect?
1. I don’t have to tour alone. I think the audience really wants to see me have a good time up there. There’s nothing sadder in this world than unrequited fun. It can get lonely touring by yourself. You come offstage with the vitamin water sweats, looking for the right lady to rate tracks on a scale of 1 to 10 with. And there’s no one there for you. No one who really understands. Now there will be at least two people who understand.

2. It forces me to evolve as a DJ, which is a very beautiful thing for a crowd to witness. Digital. Analog. And back again? Count on it.
I’m like a shark: if I stop grooving, I’ll die.

3. We all get to hang out together, our loveable gang of huggable li’l misfits. I’m going to try to force everyone to dress like authentic street urchins (newsboy caps, burlap vests), to accentuate that special sense of boyish mischief. Every guest artist can play whatever they like, provided they stay after their sets and dance behind me as I DJ. You want to get paid, you get to the back of the conga line early and often.

4. We will be putting real effort into the production aspect and the visuals. People should expect a full night of magic and smiling and looking and sighing. Post-post-post-everything musical programming. I find that nothing excites the passions like the word “programming.”
I feel I should mention that the initial idea was to tour with the same audience for every show. Unfortunately, we found that we couldn’t ship them as cargo, so we’ll have to see who turns up in each city. I can’t wait!

How long did it take to put the tour together?
In terms of talent, Planet Turbo is a perfect storm. Like that movie where the fisherman invites his wife over for a big fish dinner and there’s a romantic storm outside and he puts on the Hi-Fi and the feeling’s so right and they make love for the remainder of the film. This tour will capture the feeling of that fisherman having his way with you.

What sets this tour apart?
For one thing, it’s the first tour I’ve made a point of constantly referring to as a “game-changer”. I think the main difference is that we are going to go for a full night of music that really fits together, and visuals that represent that. So, to use the ultimate cliché, it’s a journey. One on which I hope you will let us take you. We want to take the narrative approach of a 70-minute concert and merge it with the 12-hour feel of a warehouse party.

Is there a release plan around this? Can you tell us about it?
Yes. And no, I can’t tell you about it. We are collecting 10 bombbs (for discretion’s sake I prefer to never spell “bombs” correctly, lest I attract even more hot judgment from The Man’s tireless word-finding cyber-drones. Don’t say Billy Idol didn’t warn us), remixes by our extended family of our long time megahits. I will play them in my sets, and we will release them as we go along. I foresee a lot of people coming up and asking, “What IS this track?” And a lot of me shruggin’ and grinnin’. I’m gonna be so damn sheepish it’s crazy.
I want you to imagine the best possible combinations of remixers and tracks. Now imagine me laughing at your imagination. It hurts, doesn’t it? That’s because in your imaginary heart you know that you couldn’t be farther off in terms of quality and general excitement. At the end of the tour, the whole package, along with some new original tracks, will be released as an album. We will then attempt to sell that album.

Boys Noize
Techno kid all grown up. Amazing DJ, and one of the few guys I really trust to destroy a party. Fits right into my Man’s Planz.

My brother. The heartwarming glue that holds the Turbo family together, and the first man to publicly “Kick It Up a Vibe”.

Matt Walsh
When I first met him, he was dressed exactly like Peter Pan. He even had a cable harness strapped to him.

When and why did you start Turbo?
I started it in ‘98. I just wanted to work with artists and music and find a way to launder the money from my nightclub business. That’s just me joking around. You can’t launder counterfeit traveler’s cheques. Turbo has always been about putting out the best possible music. We don’t do vanity projects. For instance, we decided against putting out my rock album, “Dungaree Heart”, as well as my devotional project “Rhythm of the Jesuits”.

What else is coming up for Tiga and Turbo?
Albums by ZZT, Chromeo, PROXY and Sei A. A Tiga MixCD. The Turbo Apps store. My book. My poetry ranch. Turbo: The Movie. Turbo: The Kindle. My fragrance, “Irrepressible Person.”

If Turbo were a planet, what would it be like?
The soil would be so rich you wouldn’t even believe it. Say a kind word and a Trust Plant springs up from the earth. The sky would be the color of the most beautiful energy drink, and the animals would all have monthly DJ charts instead of being completely useless. And I would gaze down upon my creation, singing the wind through your hair. Also, there would be no prejudice.

DJ Hype is back for his annual visit to Dublin. The reason he keeps coming back is because he keeps rocking the crowd. Essentially he's an entertainer. He plays to the crowd and smashes it every time. Of course he plays fresh music but expect the odd classic to get thrown in. He started way back in the early 1990's with the "Shut up and Dance " sound system and went on to win some scratch competitions. All of these influences are evident in his DJ sets.

His Monthly "Tru-Playaz" night in Fabric is testament to his popularity. He headlines the consistently sold out monthly in one of the world's best clubs.

He's won best DJ on numerous occasions at too many awards to mention. Has released countless singles, mix compilations and has a weekly radio show on Kiss 100. MC Daddy Earl will be on hand to provide master of ceremony services. Tickets are available from www.tickets.ie and are a very affordable 15euro including all booking fees and charges.
